The process of getting a rabbit at first takes a lot of different things. To be successful, one should have or be able to easily obtain:

- An adequately spaced living area (Should be as wide as their length and long as the distance of 4 hops)
- An exercise space of at least 32 square feet
- Extra carpeting, tile, mats, blankets, or whatever you feel works best to protect your carpet
- Hay that is appropriate for their age range
- Bowls and a hay grate, ideally ones that attach to the side of their enclosure
- Various toys and hiding tubes or domes for your bunny to interact with
- A brush if your bunny's breed requires grooming
- Fresh vegetables that are rabbit appropriate
- Cord coverings and baseboard protectors if your rabbit will explore indoors
You should be prepared to make adjustments according to your new pet's wants or needs. Rabbits are very demanding and messy creatures and will actively try to destroy their enclosure out of boredom, so if this happens to be the case you need to be prepared to offer them an alternative environment or change their current one. You also need to make sure that their environment is very secure, especially if it is outdoors as domestic rabbits will not last in the wild.
